Project Overview
As part of my work at Ghost Sherpa, I contributed primarily to the frontend development of Project GO, a SaaS platform designed to help churches centralize community management, communication, and day-to-day operations in a single application.
The platform brings together member management, directory, groups, roles and permissions, tasks, events, internal messaging, activity tracking, and personalized experiences. It also includes dashboards with insights and tools to help administrators and community leaders understand activity and manage their work more effectively.
I worked closely with the product and design team to translate the UX and UI system into a functional, responsive, and scalable web application. My work covered reusable interfaces, application flows, data-driven components, API integration, and interactions across different areas of the platform.
The application was built with Next.js, React, TypeScript, and ShadCN on the frontend, with a Node.js and Express backend connected to a MySQL database. In addition to my primary frontend responsibilities, I contributed to backend functionality and worked across different parts of the application architecture.
The Challenges
One of the main challenges was turning a broad set of community management workflows into a cohesive application. Project GO combines many different areas, from members and groups to tasks, events, messaging, and activity, while keeping the experience consistent and easy to navigate.
The platform required complex role-based functionality, allowing different users to have different levels of access and responsibilities. This meant building interfaces and application flows that could adapt to permissions and the specific context of each user.
Another challenge was working with highly data-driven screens such as dashboards, directories, activity views, and management interfaces. These required reusable components and patterns capable of handling different datasets, states, filters, and user interactions without introducing unnecessary complexity.
Communication and collaboration were also an important part of the product. The application included internal messaging, groups, events, and activity features, requiring the frontend to handle connected workflows rather than isolated pages.
The platform also integrated with external calendar functionality, allowing events and schedules to connect with users' existing workflows. This added another layer of data synchronization and interaction between the application and external services.
Building features such as the task management, and group workflows required translating product logic into intuitive interfaces while keeping the underlying interactions predictable and reusable.
Throughout development, I also worked across the frontend and backend boundary, connecting the Next.js application to a Node.js and Express API backed by MySQL and contributing to API integration and backend functionality.
